Post-Christmas Trip #1

After our wonderful Christmas celebrations at home, we decided to take off on a short road trip to this state. 

We usually try to take a trip after Christmas, but since we knew we'd be out of town in early January (that's trip #2), we decided to stay closer to home, yet still get away to give Scott a break after the busy Christmas season.  We spent one night at this fabulous bed and breakfast, which was close to the wineries so Scott could stock up on a 1/2 case of wine to bring back home.  That was part of his Christmas present.

We stayed in the cowboy-themed room (Scott's choice) and had fun being away from home.  We spent a lot of time talking and dreaming about all things baby related!

Then the original plan had been to spend 2 nights with dear friends of ours that were home visiting in Boise.  We hadn't seen them in a year and were anxious to get caught up.  Unfortunately, sickness put a damper on our plans when they woke up sicker than the previous day.  We decided to not enter the "sick home," but stick it out in town at a hotel and see if they were better the next day.

That meant we had an extra day to go exploring.  Since we were close to a state neither of us had been to, we took off westward in the car.  The scenery was pretty brown, but at least it was snow-free for December.  We started to approach these straight cliffs....

and then it was time to get out and take the tourist photo to prove we'd been to the state!  Yep, we're nerds like that.

Another state for me (and Baby, too.  This was Baby's 4th at that time.  Baby's total has since gone up to 5 different states he/she has been in!)  I've now been to all the states west of the Mississippi River.  (I still have many east of it that I need to visit though.)

We stopped at a cute coffee shop in Oregon and then decided to have lunch in town as well when we saw a new restaurant chain we hadn't tried before.  Taco Del Mar was fresh, healthy and tasty.  I had fish tacos...yummy!

After that, it was time to head back towards Boise.  We had some work to do....like starting Baby registries at Target and Babies R Us!  Since we don't have either of those stores in town, we wanted to visit them in person and look at some of the items we had been viewing online.  The best part was we picked out our nursery theme- Noah's Ark.  Here's the main inspiration piece for the room:

Isn't it cute?  We both fell in love with it.  Each of the animal pairs is one boy and one girl- perfect for our gender neutral nursery!  I'm thinking we're going to paint the walls a light yellow to offset some of the browns and blues.  I can't wait!!

After a night in a hotel, we were able to meet up with our friends at this fabulous coffee house that used to be a church.  It was great to at least see them for a bit, but we wished we would have had more time to spend with them as we had all originally planned.  After that, it was time for our 5 hour drive back home.
