Thanksgiving Weekend Recap

Now that we're into December, how about a little recap of Thanksgiving? For the past few years, we've always invited my current international students over to experience Thanksgiving for the first time. This year, however, was the first year we did not do that. I would have had several students interested, but I just didn't have the mental energy to prepare a feast for the masses. We were both tired and worn out and our hearts were not in it this year. Looking back, it does make me a little sad, but I also would have been content to just let the holiday pass by this year without much fanfare.

This was not the case with Scott. He really wanted to cook a turkey, and while he had already made one the Sunday before Thanksgiving for the college group at church, he wanted to prepare another with all of the leftovers for us. So like a good wife, I compromised and suggested we do a small gathering. Small, it was. We had just 4 join us, making for plenty of leftovers and little preparation.

A small Thanksgiving left us with plenty of energy for Black Friday shopping! We didn't wake up at a crazy insane hour like some. Instead, we left the house around 9am, did some shopping in our town, then headed to the big city for a greater selection and deals. While we were gone for most of the day, we completed nearly all of our Christmas shopping for our families and got some awesome deals. We were able to score a few 6am doorbuster deals, even though it was well in to the afternoon. That was pretty sweet.

On Saturday we tackled a never been done before task- shampooing the carpets. Our carpet had seven years of dirt and grime in it, and it was time for a cleaning. Scott did all of the hard work, and we can tell a big difference in how clean they are. Eventually, though, we just want to replace the carpeting with wood flooring, but that may not be for several more years.

Finally, this evening we've begun setting up our tree, and have been working our way through Advent since Sunday, but that will be for another post.
