Nice Weather, Fall, and Corn Mazes oh my!

The weather here has been beautiful lately. Our highs have been in the mid-80s with lows in the 40s overnight. It's perfect weather, in my opinion, because it's warm and sunny during the daytime, which makes me want to be outside in this weather and it's fairly easy to get my 10,000 steps (~5 miles) of walking in each day. The cool temps overnight mean we can open our windows in the evening and cool the house down, but don't need to keep them open overnight. The mornings are brisk and chilly- perfect for sipping a cup of hot tea for breakfast while I do my devotions!

The leaves are already red on the mountain tops, while they are just starting to turn yellow in the valleys. I think fall is one of my favorite times of the year. I love the vibrant colors of nature and the cooler temperatures. Plus, there are so many tastes and scents of fall that I enjoy- pumpkin spice lattes, fresh apple cider, butternut and acorn squash, etc.

One fall tradition around here is corn mazes. This was something new to me when I moved out here. Basically, mazes are created through corn fields that you then walk your way through. Each maze has a theme and creates a picture. This year the one we went to was a jungle theme with a tiger and a snake. Here's a picture of the map of the maze.

Last year we did a haunted corn maze with the college students from church. I did not enjoy that. You are going through a corn maze in the dark with random people jumping out at you and running after you with chainsaws and other scary stuff. Not my idea of a good time! This year we decided to go with the students before it was haunted, and it was so much more enjoyable!

We started out taking pictures with the jungle memorabilia.

The sun was setting as we started the maze and it was so beautiful with the mountains in the background and the cornstalks all around us. We split up into three groups to tackle the maze.

It quickly became dark in the maze and with the cornstalks as tall (or taller!) as us, we really had no clue which was the right direction. And so we walked.....and walked.....and hit deadends.....and backtracked...and walked some more. We periodically met up with the other groups throughout the maze as our paths crossed. All in all, it took us a little over an hour to make it through and we walked the length of 13 football fields.
