This weekend I had the chance to take a snowshoe/birding hike with the nature center and a representative from the Audobon Society. Since we bought snowshoes last season and didn't use them much, I was looking forward to the opportunity to take them out this season.
We set out with our warm clothes, goggles to keep the sun out (though there wasn't much sun), and our binoculars to watch for birds (we didn't see many).

In addition to snowshoeing and bird watching, we learned some winter facts about the canyon we were trekking in. Here's our guide talking to us about the snow layers and the evaporation snow crystals.
