And so, early in the morning on the first day of the week, (for Jews the first day of the week is Sunday since Saturday is their Sabbath), two women went to the tomb to anoint the body of Jesus. They were trying to figure out who was going to roll the massive stone away from the entrance of the tomb, when they saw him- an angel of the Lord. The stone had already been rolled back and the tomb was empty! The angel announced that Jesus was not at the tomb, but had risen.
Can you even begin to imagine? These women were going to anoint Jesus' body, when they became witnesses to the greatest miracle ever performed! They had just witnessed the gruesome death and burial of this man two days earlier, and now his tomb was empty. Now they may not have believed it was an angel proclaiming the resurrection news to them. They might have been thinking someone had stolen his body, but later that morning Jesus appeared to one of the women and talked with her. He truly was alive again!
And this is where our Holy Week ends- on Easter Sunday- a day to celebrate the resurrection of God's son. For Christians around the world, this is one of the most important days. For, you see, it is through Jesus' resurrection that we have hope for our own resurrection and new life. May you bask in the joy of the resurrection this day and always.
