We come to Saturday, the day between the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus. It's a day that's not really celebrated in our church, though I do think Catholics celebrate it as Holy Saturday. Saturday was a Sabbath day for the Jews, a day on which no work was to be done. Jesus' body was taken off the cross Friday, prepared for burial quickly, and placed in a tomb. All of this work needed to be complete before Saturday, the Sabbath. So that means this whole day the body of Jesus lay in the tomb.
At church today we did something new this year- we had an Easter event for the children of the community. They had great fun with an egg hunt, a bounce house, snacks, games, crafts, and more. It was neat to see the kids so excited and we had great weather. Then the rain clouds rolled in and the skies stayed gray. Fitting for a day where we wait....we are still reflecting on the death of Christ, yet we wait with expectant joy and anticipation, for we know how the story ends.
As the sun rose on Sunday, the first day of the week, two women made their way to the tomb...
