Boise Trip Day 1

In the middle of August, Carrie and I took a short trip to get away for a few days. We decided to head out for a few days to Boise, Idaho. We have some friends who call Boise home, and they recommended several places there for us to visit.

On the way, we had the opportunity to do something not everyone gets to do. A new LDS temple was opening in Twin Falls, Idaho, and before the temples are dedicated, non-LDS people have an opportunity to tour through the temple. For Carrie and I, this was our second temple tour. This one was a bit smaller than the first one, and I'm including a few pages of the brochure that talks about the temple. This first one is the Baptismal room.

Next, the Celestial room, which, for LDS people, is somewhat of a representation of their highest level of heaven, as I understood it.

This next picture shows the Ordinance room, where LDS people receive further instruction in the content of their faith. This particular one had murals of the surrounding countryside around Twin Falls painted on the walls.

This final room is the Sealing room, where the LDS people believe that husband and wife (and later on, families) are sealed together not just for life in this world, but for "time and all eternity."

After our brief (about an hour) tour, we jumped back in the car and headed on to Boise. Truthfully, there isn't a lot to see in the countryside between our home and Boise, so we were glad to get there. Upon arrival, we checked into our room in the Cottonwood Suites, which had a nice bed, kitchen area, and large bathroom. Then, it was time for dinner.

For dinner, we went into the downtown area, which was a short drive away. We had been told of this nice little brewpub, Tablerock, which we decided to try. It was a nice little place, with all the brewing equipment where you could see it. Carrie decided to try a small sampler of beers, while I went with a red that they made. After a couple of good burgers, we decided that it would be good to bring some beer back with us, since we had a refrigerator in the room. So we ordered two growlers, large gallon sized bottles of beer, and took them back with us. They are now decorating our kitchen, and may be filled next time our friends return home!

After dinner, a couple of beers, and spending several hours in the car, we were ready to relax, and so we spent the evening watching the Olympics on TV. Check tomorrow for Day 2 of our trip.
