Boise Trip Day 2

Yesterday I left you with just a small taste of our recent trip to Boise. As we began Day 2, we start with the nice breakfast that Cottonwood Suites provided for us. Since I am usually the first one to wake up, I headed downstairs and found a decent continental breakfast awaiting me. Since it was early in the morning, the evening Olympic events were still on TV, and in order to give Carrie a little time to sleep in, I lingered over breakfast to watch the US Men's basketball team battle to a victory. Then, I went to get Carrie and spend a little time at breakfast with her.


As we headed to the downtown area, we made one stop at a chocolate shop that our friends had told us about. We purchased a few pieces of chocolate to try out, and then headed to downtown Boise, which sort of surprised us with how accessible everything was. We parked our car, and then walked around through a nice downtown park, checking out the rose garden, and then heading into the shopping area. We stopped at a tourist information booth, and then just checked out some of the shops, stopping for lunch in a little Greek restaurant that was very delicious.


During the afternoon, we headed just outside of Boise to check out the local old penitentiary. It was a place built out of old rock where many frontier prisoners had been held and executed. We briefly joined with a tour, but then decided to check it out ourselves. We went through the whole complex, seeing where prisoners were hanged, as well as some of the museums that are now in the buildings.

After that stop, we headed back into town to go through a nature center located in downtown Boise. It was a very pleasant place to walk through, seeing the butterfly farm and some places where salmon and other fish were spawning. Overall, we took a little over an hour enjoying the nature scenes and shade!

Once again in the evening, we spent the rest of the time in our room back at our hotel, watching the Olympics. As we flipped back and forth between the Olympics and the news, we saw that a local Boise woman had medaled in China in one of the cycling events, and the next morning, she would be riding with many of the local people downtown, where she would be awarded a key to the city.
